DENVER—Three former campaign finance managers for GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes say Maes’ campaign finance records are a mess.
Former volunteer treasurer C.J. Garbo, El Paso County Clerk Bob Balink, who also volunteered with the campaign, and consultant Andrea Hough told The Denver Post that they tried to straighten out the records. But they say Maes turned over some of the record keeping to his wife and the records were inconsistent.
In July, Maes consented to the largest campaign fine in state history, paying $17,500 after he failed to properly record employment information for donors and after accusations he improperly reimbursed himself more than $40,000 for mileage.
