Rookie goaltender Kyle Jones stopped 32 shots to lead the Colorado Eagles to their first victory of the season, a 5-3 defeat of the Arizona Sundogs in a Central Hockey League game Saturday night in Loveland.

Riley Nelson and Kevin Ulanski recorded three points apiece for Colorado, which outscored Arizona 4-1 in the second period. The Eagles evened their record after losing to Arizona in the season opener for both teams Friday.

• The Eagles on Friday waived defensemen Mario Joly and Chris Hau. Joly was suspended by the league after his involvement in a bloody preseason fight last week against Odessa.

Rams cruise past Lobos.

The 16th-ranked Colorado State volleyball team won its eighth straight match, sweeping New Mexico 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 in a Mountain West Conference matchup in Fort Collins.

CU harriers prep for nationals.

Laura Tremblay finished in second place in leading the University of Colorado women’s cross country team to a second-place finish in the “white” race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. Tremblay navigated the 6-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 10.1 seconds. Joe Bosshard was CU’s top men’s finisher with a seventh- place showing in the 8K race in a time of 23:49.1. The Buffs took third place in the men’s team standings.

Pioneers win on the road.

Freshmen Brea Muhle and Colleen King combined for 27 kills as the Denver volleyball team got a 3-1 victory over host Louisiana-Lafayette. The Pioneers won 25-19, 12-25, 25-16, 25-22.

Cowgirls run over Frogs.

Jodi Purdy had a double- double with 13 points and 11 digs to lead the Wyoming volleyball team to a three-game sweep of TCU in Laramie. The Cowgirls won 25-11, 25-22, 25-20.

Tigers take two, clinch share.

The Colorado College volleyball team clinched a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship after winning two matches Saturday, a sweep of Oglethorpe University and a four-game win over Austin College.
