GREELEY, Colo.—Taiwan Jones ran for 168 yards and three touchdowns, including a 24-yarder with 41 seconds to play, and Eastern Washington rallied to beat Northern Colorado 35-28 on Saturday.
Jesse Hoffman had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Brandon Kaufman caught a touchdown pass for the Eagles (5-2, 4-1 Big Sky), winners of four in a row.
Dylan Orms passed for 199 yards and a touchdown and ran for another for the Bears (2-5, 1-4).
Northern Colorado trailed 21-14 at the half. Orms scored on a 1-yard run early in the third quarter to tie the game and Andre Harris scored from a yard out on fourth down with 12:07 remaining to put the Bears ahead 28-21.
Eastern Washington rallied late in the fourth quarter. The Eagles got the ball at their own 20 midway through the fourth quarter and used an 11-play drive to tie it on Bo Mitchell’s 4-yard pass to Kaufman with 3:08 left.
Northern Colorado returned the kickoff to midfield and drove to Eastern Washington’s 38 when Orms hit Patrick Walker with an 8-yard pass to give the Bears a first down.
The Eagles stopped Jhamele Robinson on first down, then sacked Orms for a loss. On third-and-14, Jerry Ceja sacked Orms and forced a fumble that Tyler Jolley returned to the Bears’ 39. Two plays later Jones scored on a 24-yard run.
The Bears have lost six straight to Eastern Washington dating back to 1984. Northern Colorado is 1-7 all-time against the Eagles, with its lone win coming in 1981.
