An Amber Alert issued this afternoon for a 3-year-old Cañon City police believe was taken by her father was cancelled at about 5:30 p.m.
Sereniti King was recovered by Colorado Springs police and her father, Gregory King, 29, was taken into custody.
According to police, King assaulted his common law wife and sped off east on U.S. Highway 50 with the child after the mother escaped his 1995 Red Ford Taurus at about 1:30 p.m. today.
King is known to carry a pistol, police said.
Pitkin County authorities accompanied the Amber Alert with a warning that he has an extensive history of “aggravated assault on police officers.”
Police believed he may have been headed to Kansas.
