A father and son escaped injury after a pre-race stunt gone bad caused a fiery wreck at Charlotte Motor Speedway. About two hours before Saturday’s Sprint Cup race, the daredevil known as Spanky Spangler was driving around the track in a beat-up recreational vehicle with “Hold my beer” spray-painted on one side. He was chased by a police cruiser driven by his son, Bryan Spangler. There were a series of planned explosions just as the cars approached a jump. But the bottom of the RV caught fire and landed nose-first on top of junk cars next to the ramps. Spangler was OK after the crash.
