Brent Ward will face charges of attempted first-degree murder, third-degree assault and menacing in an assault on his girlfriend and a stranger who tried to help her last week.

Ward, 27, is accused of pushing his girlfriend out of a car in the 4600 block of Vrain Street, then stabbing and beating the 36-year-old man who came to her aid, police said.

Ward was arrested after a short car chase a few hours later.

He remains in the Denver Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
