Two men sought by Boulder police as possible witnesses in the assault of an officer have been found and questioned, police said.

Saturday night, a Boulder police sergeant was assaulted by a man who had slashed tires on two police vehicles. Afterward, two men at a Boulder restaurant, who were filmed by a security camera, talked about the incident, so police were keen on finding them.

“Both men have cooperated fully,” according to a Boulder Police Department news release. “As a result, investigators have determined they have no information about the suspect.”

Police said the pair at the restaurant were “simply repeating information they learned from officers who were canvassing the neighborhood” after the assault.

Sgt. Jim Byfield suffered a concussion and a broken elbow and clavicle in the struggle about 9:40 p.m. Saturday near 11th and College streets. The suspect remains at large.
