ASPEN, Colo.—A man who authorities say ran from an Aspen courthouse after his sentencing has indicated he’ll accept a plea deal that could send him to prison for another three years.
The attorney for 45-year-old Warren C. Carter says his client is willing to plead guilty to a felony escape charge as part of an agreement with prosecutors to drop five charges that could have added 51 years of prison time.
The Aspen Daily News and The Aspen Times reported the deal Tuesday, which was announced in court.
Authorities say Carter fled from the Pitkin County courthouse after being sentenced to 3 years for stealing cooper. Sheriff’s deputies arrested him minutes later outside an art gallery.
Carter is expected to formally enter a guilty plea on Nov. 1.
