Halloween is creeping up on us, but this weekend’s ghostly activities are a little scarce.
Perhaps it’s because of the upcoming holiday — there’s so much to do in the next week that this weekend is by necessity a quiet one. Energy is being stored up for the main event. Nonetheless, there’s stuff to do, as always.
Tonight, Denver’s fashion freaks come out to play at the “Creatures of Couture” fall fashion show at Summit Music Hall (1902 Blake St.).
Models will prowl the catwalk, clad in clothes by local designers like Marlaesk, Natasha Lillipore, Klever Kitty Designs and more. The strutting will be set to live music from Air Dubai, The Heyday, The Shake-Up Brigade and Lacuna Drive.
It’s like a Denver version of the annual “Fashion Rocks” concert — beats, beauty and big style. Advance tickets at are $10; tickets at the door are $12. The show starts at 7 tonight.
Another fashion fest lights up tonight: The Sneaker Prom.
Organizers are trying to keep it as true to the theme as possible, so partygoers are asked to wear fancy threads up top, with sneakers underneath. That means prom dresses, tuxedos, and other formal attire — the kicks are up to you. The wearers of the best outfits could win the estimable title of Sneaker King or Queen.
DJs Chonz and Mu$a will provide the tunes, so it’s a good thing everyone will be wearing comfortable shoes.
The Sneaker Prom starts at 9 tonight at 303 Agency (940 Lincoln St.), the former home of Zen Ultralounge and DC10. The cover charge is $15-$20.
The Denver Zombie Crawl, on Saturday, will turn downtown into a massive “Thriller” video. Don’t be surprised if, come Saturday night, a favorite LoDo watering hole suddenly looks like a corpse convention. The Crawl is extremely popular, and undoubtedly some of the ghouls are going to need a stiff drink after their ramble through the city. Even if you’re not zombified, the Crawl is a sight to behold.
Costume lovers of a different stripe will convene at the Victorian Fetish Ball, also on Saturday.
Now in its 11th year, the giant party requires guests to arrive in costume — there are no bystanders here. The Diamond Cabaret (1222 Glenarm Place) and the attached After Dark are appropriate venues for the steamy debauchery. Fetish model Rubberdoll is one of the featured performers, to give a clue as to what’s in store.
The Victorian Fetish Ball starts at 9 p.m. Saturday. An after-party kicks in from 2-4 Sunday morning. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $59 for VIP. Admission to the after-party is an additional $15. Learn more and buy tickets .
Finally, if you’re looking to get away from the ubiquitous Halloween/costume party madness, there’s a straight-up party going on at Beta (1909 Blake St.) on Saturday.
Remixer and producer AC Slater (not the “Saved by the Bell” character) takes on Beta’s dancefloor on Saturday night. Expect electro anthems, booming bass and no pressure to wear a costume.
Doors open at 9 p.m. Saturday. Advance tickets are $10 at .
Batty!
Want to face your fear — and get an education — over cocktails? Check out the Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s”Live Bats!” demonstration on Thursday.
The event, for adults ages 21 and up, offers an up-close look at bats from all over the world. Learn about the misunderstood mammals, and have a couple drinks and snacks along the way.
The fun starts at 8 p.m. Thursday at the museum (2001 Colorado Blvd.). Tickets are $8 for museum members, $10 for nonmembers. Visit for more information.
