DENVER—New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivered the keynote speech at a dinner for the Denver Scholarship Foundation to help the group raise more than $2 million.

Bloomberg stressed the importance education has in establishing economic vitality in communities during his speech Thursday night at the Hyatt Regency at the Colorado Convention Center.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper invited Bloomberg to be keynote speaker for the fundraiser. Last year’s dinner raised $1.4 million.

Since 2006, the Denver Scholarship Foundation has provided Denver Public Schools graduates with more than 3,000 scholarships worth $7.4 million.
