MEXICO CITY — A powerful earthquake struck offshore in Mexico’s Gulf of California on Thursday, causing people to flee into the streets in the western state of Sinaloa, but there were no reports of damage or injury. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit at 11:53 a.m., had a magnitude of 6.9 and struck about 65 miles south of Los Mochis at a relatively shallow depth of 6.2 miles.
