DENVER—Colorado Republican congressman Doug Lamborn says National Public Radio’s decision to fire news analyst Juan Williams will boost support for his bill to eliminate federal funding for public broadcasting.

Lamborn introduced a bill last June that would pull the plug. He said Friday the federal government can’t afford the $420 million a year it gives the Corporation for Public Broadcasting because it’s running huge deficits.

NPR fired Williams over comments he made about Muslim airline passengers.

Lamborn says the firing will help the bill because it shows a “leftist bias” at NPR.

He says the broadcast business is thriving on the radio the Internet and television and doesn’t need government support.
