INDIANAPOLIS — Colts tight end Dallas Clark was put on injured reserve Friday and will have season-ending wrist surgery. Clark said he met with three surgeons before the decision and plans to return next year for a ninth season.
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s been confirmed that surgery is necessary to repair the injury to my wrist,” Clark said. “I look forward to supporting my teammates the rest of this season and rehabilitating my wrist back to full strength for next season.”
Clark ranks third on the team with 37 catches for 347 yards after catching 100 passes for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, when he made the all-pro team.
NFL’s dirty dozen
NEW YORK — The NFL fined 12 more players, mostly for unnecessary roughness in games last weekend, sending another strong message that violent conduct wouldn’t be tolerated.
Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards was fined the most, $20,000, for spearing Dallas running back Marion Barber on Sunday. Edwards was cited as a repeat offender; he was previously fined Aug. 28 for roughing the passer and Sept. 26 for unnecessary roughness.
“I just got fined $20,000 for a spear that really wasn’t a spear,” Edwards said. “If you look at the last play, (Dallas tackle Marc) Colombo speared Jared (Allen) and I don’t believe he got fined. If you’re going to fine people, fine everybody. Don’t just fine defensive guys.”
Included in the latest penalties: Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins ($10,000); defensive ends William Hayes ($10,000) and Dave Ball ($5,000) of the Titans; guard Wade Smith ($5,000), defensive end Adewale Ogunleye ($5,000) and safety Bernard Pollard of the Texans; Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb ($5,000); 49ers safety Dashon Goldson ($5,000); Vikings receiver Bernard Berrian ($5,000); Lions guard Stephen Peterman ($7,500); and Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes ($5,000).
Pittsburgh’s James Harrison ($75,000), Atlanta’s Dunta Robinson and New Eng- land’s Brandon Meriweather (both $50,000) were fined earlier in the week.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher excused Kenny Britt from practice and is giving him the benefit of the doubt while he gathers information about a bar fight the coach said the wide receiver tried to break up.
• Prosecutors in San Diego said they won’t charge former NFL linebacker Junior Seau after his live-in girlfriend alleged she was assaulted early Monday.
• A gun charge in the Florida Panhandle has been dropped against Glenn Coffee because it was determined the former 49ers running back did not violate the law by having a loaded pistol in the center console of his 2008 Cadillac during a traffic stop.
