Denverites should brace for a freeze overnight and winter weather in the Colorado mountains is likely to continue through Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning – sub-freezing temperatures are likely — for Denver from 10 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Overnight low temperatures across much of northeastern Colorado will drop down to about 28 degrees, with readings as low as 20 degrees near Limon and the Palmer Divide, according to the weather service.
Meanwhile, a winter storm blasting the Colorado northern mountains today, with periods of heavy snow and strong winds, should continue through Tuesday night, the weather service warns. Winds gusting up to 65 mph above timberline and in sections of the foothills today will continue overnight, according to the weather service. Mountain areas, especially along the Continental Divide, could see an additional accumulation of eight inches of snow overnight.
In Denver this afternoon there will be a 30 percent chance of showers as winds gust to about 30 mph and the high temperature tops out in the low 50s.
Tuesday in Denver will be mostly breezy and sunny, with a high temperature of about 53 degrees.
