George Di Ciero, Broomfield’s city and county manager, announced Tuesday night he would retire after more than four decades of service to the northwest metro community.
Di Ciero, who turns 68 next month, said he would step down effective next Aug. 1, the anniversary of his first day as city manager in 1968, when he was 25 years old.
“I thought about my upcoming birthday and decided it was time to retire,” he said in a statement issued by the city and county. “I look forward to spending more time with my family and friends.”
According to the city, Di Ciero has worked for nine Broomfield mayors and 25 city councils. During his tenure, Broomfield grew from 6,500 residents to more than 55,000.
Before joining Broomfield, Di Ciero was assistant city manager in Littleton.
“His influence has made Broomfield one of the most livable, well-planned, and well managed cities in Colorado,” Mayor Pat Quinn stated.
He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder and Denver’s North High School. In addition to numerous awards, he is the namesake of a college scholarhip awarded by the Broomfield Community Foundation to city and county residents who intend to pursue careers in public service.
