WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama met briefly on Tuesday with gay-rights groups pushing to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, according to people familiar with the meeting.
The groups were at the White House to discuss a repeal of the law with senior administration officials. The president stopped by “to directly convey to the participants his personal commitment on this issue,” a senior official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Appointments Project of the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute announced Tuesday that Obama has appointed more openly gay officials — more than 150 so far — than any other president in history.
