U.S. Rep. John Salazar was headed to a campaign event on a snowy mountain pass when he encountered a 53-foot semitrailer that had slid off the road, blocking it. The Manassa Democrat, who was driving his wife’s vehicle, managed to pull the semi out and get the truck driver going again on Red Mountain Pass between Ouray and Silverton.
Salazar, a Democrat from the San Luis Valley, faces Republican Scott Tipton of Cortez in his re-election bid in the 3rd Congressional District.
