A number of flights are being delayed and a few others are cancelled at Denver International Airport this afternoon due to winds both in Denver and at Midwest airports such as Chicago O’Hare and Minneapolis.
DIA issued a ground delay at 1:15 p.m. today that is expected to last until nearly 7 p.m. reported that flights are being delayed an average of 44 minutes.
At 2 p.m. today, winds at DIA were 26 mph out of the west, with gusts up to 32 mph. With westerly wind, aircraft were generally limited to taking off and landing to the west.
DIA spokesman Jeff Green said people should check flights with their airlines before heading to the airport.
Wind gusts tonight are forecast to be as high as 31 mph at DIA, with calmer weather expected Wednesday.
Denver’s weather was adding to Chicago O’Hare’s woes Tuesday afternoon as the Midwest was raked with an intense wind storm.
Chicago issued a ground delay affecting arrivals between 12:15 p.m. to nearly 11 p.m. CDT. Flights were being delayed an average of 75 minutes.
Minneapolis also has a ground delay for arrivals between 1:50 p.m. and midnight CDT. Flight delays were expected to average 239 minutes.
