DENVER—Prominent Colorado Republicans including gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes will be going elsewhere for this year’s election night celebrations.

Maes will be in Colorado Springs where he has his tea party base. GOP congressional candidate Ryan Frazier is going to Lakewood, congressional candidate Cory Gardner will be in Loveland and Scott Tipton plans to be in Grand Junction.

GOP state party chairman Dick Wadhams says it’s not unusual for candidates to skip the state party event, which is being held at the Doubletree Denver Tech Center hotel.

State Democratic Party chairwoman Pat Waak said Democratic congressional incumbents John Salazar and Betsy Markey will hold events in their districts. The Democratic party will be held at the Denver Marriott.
