BUENA VISTA — The body of missing rafter Kimberly Appelson was found at about 1 p.m. today in the Frog Rock area of the Arkansas River.

Officials present at the scene estimated that the body recovery would take approximately an hour after it was spotted by members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department Dive Team.

Appelson, 23, was a first-year Arkansas Valley Adventures raft guide who was ejected from a raft at an area of the river known as Frog Rock during a recreational excursion. She was off duty at the time of the accident.

Frog Rock is known to contain a potentially deadly underwater rock feature known as a sieve, which officials believed was where Appelson’s body remained trapped since the July 11 incident.
