A 21-year-old Denver man arrested in Summit County earlier this month was charged Wednesday with assault and a hate crime, alleging he attacked a woman in a West Colfax Avenue parking lot because he thought she was a lesbian, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said.
Alexander Declouet is charged with second-degree assault, criminal mischief and bias motivated crime, all felonies.
Declouet is accused of assaulting the 21-year-old woman in the early morning hours of Aug. 22 then vandalizing her car in the confrontation in the 700 block of West Colfax Avenue.
He was arrested on Oct. 3 and is free on $5,000 bond. He will be in a Denver court on Nov. 8, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
