In the quarterfinal round, teams play two-game, home-and-away series, with the team that scores the most goals advancing to the next round.
If the teams are tied at the end of the second regulation game, 30 minutes of extra time (divided into two 15-minute periods) will be played. If the teams are still tied, the series will be settled by penalty kicks.
Survivors advance to one-game semifinal matches, and the semifinal winners meet in the MLS Cup final.
