A car stolen outside a Target store in Aurora on Tuesday afternoon is still missing, but Billie the pooch is back home safe, police said.
The dog was inside a dark-blue 2009 Honda Fit when it was taken from the parking lot of the store at 1400 S. Havana St. after owner Kristine Hipps left her keys at the customer service counter. Store video showed a woman behind her in line pick the keys up, said Aurora Detective Bob Friel.
“The victim walked out to her car, realized she didn’t have her keys and went back inside,” Friel said. “That’s when the suspect took the opportunity to steal the car with the dog inside.”
A $1,000 reward was offered for Billie’s return. But on Wednesday afternoon an unidentified woman released the dog inside a PetSmart store in Arvada and then drove off in the stolen car, Friel said.
Anyone with information can call Aurora police at 303-739-6000.
