FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Health officials say a Colorado State University student died from the same strain of bacteria that killed three players in a pickup hockey game and infected three others earlier this year.
CSU student Christina Adame (Ah-Dom-aye) died last week. Larimer County health officials said Wednesday that she was exposed to meningococcal bacteria, which causes meningitis and the blood infection sepsis.
The Coloradoan reports the same strain was found in three men who died after playing in a hockey game in June at a Fort Collins recreation center.
Health officials say it may be years before the bacteria disappear from the area. Officials recommend that people should get booster shots after five years they’re vaccinated and that CSU students should get a meningitis vaccine shot.
