GRAND FORKS, N.D.—Sam Brittain made 33 saves as Denver beat eighth-ranked North Dakota 3-0 Saturday to earn a split of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

Brittain came up big for the Pioneers (3-3-2, 2-1-1), who were outshot 33-17 by the Fighting Sioux (4-3-1, 3-1-0). Brittain, who had 26 saves in Friday’s 4-3 loss, had 15 saves in the scoreless first period.

Drew Shore broke the tie at 16:06 of the second period, just as a 5-minute major penalty on North Dakota expired.

Jason Zucker netted his third goal of the series at 4:15 of the third period. He scored short-handed against Fighting Sioux goalie Brad Eidsness, who made 14 saves on 17 shots.

Kyle Ostrow added an empty-net goal with 18 seconds to play. Ostrow and Shore had a goal and an assist and Anthony Maiani had two assists for Denver.
