DENVER—A 51-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison in the beating of a woman at his home on the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation.

Floyd Box Jr. of Towaoc (TOH’-ahk) pleaded guilty in May to assault with a dangerous weapon and abusive sexual contact. The sentence was announced Friday.

Prosecutors say Box used his fists and feet, a broomstick, a knife, an empty liquor bottle and a stereo in the attack on the female victim Nov. 28.

Witnesses told investigators Box had been drinking. Box’s lawyer, Ronald Gainor, said Box does not remember much of that night.

Box was also sentenced to five years of supervisory release after his prison term for a total sentence of eight years.
