COLORADO SPRINGS — Taylor Matson had two goals and Minnesota scored first for the first time in five games Friday and beat Colorado College 4-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Matson, a junior forward, came into the game with four career goals for the Golden Gophers (4-3-0, 2-3-0). He scored late in the first and third periods.
Erik Haula and Jay Barriball each had a goal and an assist and Aaron Ness had two assists for the Gophers, who were playing on the road for the first time this season after six straight home games.
CC (3-3-1, 1-2-0) outshot Minnesota 28-24. Freshman winger Jaden Schwartz scored the Tigers’ only goal and the game’s only second-period goal at 9:06. It was Schwartz’s fifth goal of the season.
Minnesota goalie Kent Patterson had 27 saves, and Colorado College’s Joe Howe made 20 stops.
