After being pinned beneath a boulder for five days in a slot canyon, Aron Ralston’s survival hinged upon a single defining moment. The decision to cut off his arm to free himself ultimately saved his life.
That saga is the basis of Danny Boyle’s new film, “127 Hours,” premiering Friday. And while most viewers (hopefully) never will encounter such a dramatic life-or-death scenario, a website launched in conjunction with the film gives outdoor adventurers an opportunity to compare notes.
, which was recently launched, is seeking inspirational and life-changing stories from people’s experiences in the great outdoors. Together with Ralston’s story, the top 126 moments selected by editors of Outside magazine will create “127 Defining Moments” eligible for a variety of outdoor gear prizes. They also make for some pretty good reading.
