PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—The U.S. Northern Command will dispatch helicopters and fighter jets to enforce a no-fly zone around Kennedy Space Center, Fla., for Wednesday’s space shuttle launch.

Northcom, based at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., routinely enforces flight restrictions for space launches, presidential visits and other events.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction barring civilian flights over the launch area for about five hours.

Northcom oversees the U.S. military’s homeland defense and supports civilian authorities.
