A record number of travelers passed through Denver International Airport in September, up 8.6 percent from the same period last year.

The 4,356,592 passengers reported this September is the highest for the month in DIA’s 15-year history, besting the previous high of 4,017,761 in September 2008.

For the first nine months of the year, passenger traffic stands at 39,507,689, up 1,172,458 or 3.1 percent from the same nine-month period in 2009.

“Breaking the record for the busiest September in DIA history is excellent news,” aviation manager Kim Day said. “We are optimistic that this positive growth trend will continue at DIA and hope it is indicating a true recovery throughout the aviation industry.”
