Kevin Bradley, an online bookseller and longtime active member of the Democratic party, was asked to challenge Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn to represent the 5th Congressional District. Bradley attended a party meeting in May and found that there was no Democrat running for the spot. He agreed to refrain from fundraising to prevent taking money away from tighter races and campaigned using recycled signs from failed primary candidates.

The district, dominated by voters from Colorado Springs, is heavily Republican. Bradley said he was just hoping to catch some of the anti-incumbent sentiment and do research for the next Democratic candidate in 2012.

Lamborn, first elected in 2006, has said he thinks government spending has created a poor economic environment that hurts jobs.
