A $2.5 million home in Keystone that was undergoing renovation was destroyed by fire last night.
The fire at the unoccupied home, located at 1337 Soda Ridge Road in the Old Keystone subdivision, was fully ablaze when neighbors reported the fire to dispatchers about 7:47 p.m., said Lake Dillon Fire and Rescue spokesman Steve Lipsher.
Flames were shooting into the roof from the log-beam interior when firefighters arrived, said Lipsher.
“We did everything we could, but the house was too far gone,” said Lake Dillon Fire Department Deputy Chief Jeff Berino. “This was a really stubborn fire that got into a lot of nooks and crannies.”
Lipsher said the home had been undergoing a major renovation and had exposed trusses and interior walls, as well as wood furnishings.
About two dozen firefighters kept the fire from spreading to nearby residences. Two ladder trucks and three engines responded to the two-story structure.
“It did not burn to the ground,” said Lipsher. “There is still a shell standing. But I’m guessing they will have to pull it down. The inside was charred black.”
No one was injured in the blaze, Lipsher said.
A preliminary investigation into the cause is focusing on a heating appliance in the kitchen. Arson is not suspected.
The fire was brought under control at 9:22 p.m., and was declared out at 12:10 a.m. today.
The owners of the home were out of state at the time and have been notified.
