A man was arrested after rocks were thrown at vehicles on U.S. 285 Tuesday, but only after a couple of vehicles were hit by the missiles and a deputy sheriff was injured trying to subdue him.
The incident occurred about 1:40 p.m. An off-duty deputy saw a man throwing rocks at cars near Shaffers Crossing, about 10 miles southwest of the intersection of C470 and U.S. 285. Authorities said the deputy identified himself and tried to take the man, identified as Jeremiah Winters, 23, into custody. In the struggle, the sergeant hit the ground causing a gash in his head.
