FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Fort Collins woman found dead nearly two weeks after she was reported missing had told family members that she planned to leave her common-law husband because of multiple instances of abuse.

Family members told investigators that 57-year-old Kathy Adams had planned to board a plane to Georgia around the time she went missing, according to an affidavit obtained by The Coloradoan. Forty-eight-year-old John Marks Jr. is being held on $1 million bail on suspicion of second-degree murder in Adams’ death.

Adams’ body was found last week in a ravine along between Lyons and Estes Park. Adams’ brother reported her missing Oct. 12.

Investigators say they found blood in drains and near a washing machine at the home shared by the couple.
