A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a head-on crash that killed the driver of a Suburu Outback on U.S. 285 near Conifer tonight.
The deputy was airlifted to St. Anthony Central hospital in Denver with serious injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The two were the only occupants of the two vehicles.
No names or conditions have been released. The deputy was trapped in his patrol sport-utility vehicle when rescuers arrived following the crash at 8:24 p.m. between Eagle Cliff Road and Turkey Creek Road.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed U.S. 285 in both directions at Conifer Road. Northbound U.S. 285 was reopen by 10:30 p.m., but there was no estimated time for a reopening of the southbound lanes, CDOT said.
