Barrels leaking an unknown substance led to precautionary evacuations Friday evening in Commerce City.
The evacuation included an area between East 79th and East 87th avenues and between Monaco Parkway and Interstate 76, officials said. It was lifted about 9 p.m. More than 200 people were affected.
Candi Baker, Adams County sheriff’s spokeswoman, said the South Adams Fire Department, responding to reports of an unusual odor about 4:30 p.m., found several barrels leaking an unknown substance near what is believed to be an old chemical plant near East 80th Avenue and Monaco. The Red Cross established an evacuation center at DuPont Elementary, 7970 Kimberly St. The Denver Post
