Spinning an original concept

Wooden Spools is a new store in Englewood that sells unused, discarded fabrics and yarns for about half the average retail price. But don’t call it “recycled” or “secondhand”: These are generally last-season products or otherwise out of production, so store owners prefer the term “revived.” Today the store is celebrating its grand opening with additional 25 percent discounts. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. 2805 S. Broadway, Englewood; 303-761-9231;

Wrap it up

Donated vinyl promotional banners from Copper Mountain, the Denver Zoo, the Denver Film Society, the Denver Art Museum and several other noteworthy Colorado businesses and nonprofits were used in the most recent collection of tote bags by LyziWraps, a Denver company inspired by and named after a young eco-pioneer who was eager to find green ways to wrap gifts. The tote bags are $40 at .

Expo promoters say the event caters to fans of every musical genre, and appeals to both hardcore collectors and casual music hobbyists. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Red Lion Hotel Denver Southeast, 3200 S. Parker Road, Aurora. Admission is $2. Details at or call 303-238-0433.
