DURANGO, Colo.—The chairman of the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council is facing a recall election.
The tribal council Thursday scheduled the recall election of Matthew Box for Dec. 3. The election was scheduled after recall organizers turned in the signatures of nearly 300 tribal members.
Tribal member Rick Jefferson tells The Durango Herald that the recall effort started in April. Members of the tribe have questioned recent decisions on government policy and Southern Ute corporations.
The tribe is based in Ignacio in southwest Colorado.
