Veterans Day is Thursday, but events honoring those who have served in the military have already begun.

Saturday, Nov. 6

• The Denver Veterans Day 5K Race will be at 8 a.m. on the Auraria campus in downtown Denver, with race packet pickup beginning at 6 a.m. The race benefits the Metro State Army ROTC Running Club and the Rippetoe Foundation, honoring Army Ranger Capt. • Denver’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. The parade starts at Civic Center. A map of the route is at left. The review stand is between Colfax and 14th avenues on Broadway.

• The Fairmount Heritage Foundation will place flags on veterans’ graves from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., and at Riverside Cemetery, 5201 Brighton Blvd., Denver. To register, call 303-322-3895 or e-mail heritage@ .

• The Highlands Ranch Concert Band is performing a free tribute event for the men and women of the armed forces at 7 p.m. at ThunderRidge High School, 1991 Wildcat Reserve Parkway, Highlands Ranch.

• The Longmont Veterans Day Parade will start at 11:11 a.m. at Eighth Avenue and Main Street and proceed south on Main to Third Avenue. Road closures for the parade will last from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• The Pueblo Veterans Day parade will be at 10 a.m.

Sunday, Nov. 7

• The Fairmount Heritage Foundation will place flags on veterans’ graves from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., and at Riverside Cemetery, 5201 Brighton Blvd., Denver.

• McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants, 8100 E Union Ave., No. 101, Denver; and 1659 Wazee St., Denver, are offering free entrees to veterans Sunday. The chain requests military ID and recommends making reservations. The promotion is on Nov. 7 instead of on Veterans Day “so vets can bring their families who might not be available during the week,” says chief executive Bill Freeman. Info: .
