DENVER—What’s in a name? Just ask Colorado House Democrats who are seething after the new Republican House majority changed the names of some legislative committees.
House Speaker-designee Frank McNulty renamed the Health and Human Services Committee as the Health and Environment Committee and the Business Affairs and Labor Committee as the Economic and Business Development Committee. The Transportation & Energy Committee will simply be the Transportation Committee.
Republicans said the changes better reflect their pro-business agenda.
Democratic Rep. Nancy Todd of Aurora said eliminating the words “labor,” “human services,” and “energy” from committee names won’t stop the discussion.
