COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Jordan Zand headed the ball into the net in the 23rd minute Wednesday night, and the Air Academy Kadets won their second boys soccer title with a 1-0 victory over the Broomfield Eagles.
Zand’s header came off a soaring pass from Mark Dotseth in a first half dominated by the second-seeded Kadets (19-1).
Broomfield (14-3-3), the No. 8 seed, managed to pressure Air Academy in the second half, but Kadets goalie Christian Elsner met the challenge.
Elsner, who made his second start of the season after Peter Vogrin was injured in the semifinals, stopped 6 shots, including 5 in the second half.
Brendan Buchanan had 5 saves for Broomfield, which played in its seventh state title game since 1999, last winning it all in 2007.
Air Academy won its first boys soccer championship since 1990.
