AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—The Air Force Academy has appointed a chief diversity officer to address equity, diversity and inclusion matters.

The academy said Wednesday that Adis Maria Vila will fill the position.

Her job will include working with Congress on diversity issues, promoting diversity at the classroom and school-wide levels and consolidating the academy’s diversity efforts.

Vila is also responsible for implementing a diversity plan put into effect by academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Mike Gould shortly after he took command in 2009.

The plan calls for exposing cadets to a broad range of ideas and experiences from different racial, gender, ethnic, language, religious, economic and other perspectives.
