COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Jake Gilchrist Dudley scored in the 82nd minute Wednesday night, and Cherry Creek handed Mountain Vista its first loss of the season with a 1-0 win in the Class 5A state boys soccer championship at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Gilchrist Dudley, a junior midfielder, carried the ball down the far sideline, made a move inside and rocketed the ball into the net with 13:09 to play in the first overtime.
With the victory, second-seeded Creek (16-1-3), earned its sixth state boys soccer title and first since 1981.
Top-seeded Mountain Vista (18-1), a Highlands Ranch school that was attempting to win its first state soccer championship, saw its dream of a perfect season end.
Bruins goalie Blaine Barsch stopped 5 shots. Mountain Vista used two keepers. Trevor Obering saved 5 first-half shots, and Christian Nicolosi stopped 5 of the 6 shots put on him in the second half and overtime.
