DENVER—The Colorado Avalanche is sending forward prospect Michael Bournival to Montreal in exchange for defenseman Ryan O’Byrne.
The Avalanche announced the deal Thursday.
Byrne has played in three games for the Canadiens this season, earning four penalty minutes and no points. The 26-year-old is a native of Victoria, British Columbia and played three seasons for Cornell University before being drafted by Montreal in the 2003 entry draft.
Bournival was Colorado’s third pick in the 2010 draft.
Colorado has been hit by a rash of injuries, giving the team arguably the best lineup in the league that’s unable to play.
