SWAT officers surrounded a home in Lafayette before a negotiator talked a 15-year-old boy armed with a shotgun into surrendering Thursday afternoon, police said.
The boy’s grandmother called police just before 1 p.m. and said she had barricaded herself in the basement with her 11-year-old grandson and 2-year-old granddaughter.
She said her 15-year-old grandson was suicidal. She and the other two children were rescued by police through a basement window.
The 15-year-old surrendered and came outside about just before 5 p.m.
An automated phone message told residents near the home in the 2800 block of Blue Jay Way to stay inside.
The boy’s name was not released because he is a juvenile.
