When life gives you basil, make an infused vinegar, bottle it, wrap a bow around it and sell it.

The roughly 65 members of the Denver Botanic Gardens Guild did exactly that during the gardens’ three-day holiday sale this past weekend, raising money to fund on-site programs for children and families as well as educational resources for visitors and members of the gardens.

The guild, a volunteer organization at the gardens, is partly responsible for the care of the herb garden, which results in large stocks of fresh herbs.

“The natural thing was to do something with them,” said Joedy Arnold, a guild member since the group’s founding in 1964.

The sale was part of the guild’s ongoing year-round efforts, which also annually include a large spring sale and sales through the permanent gift shop at the gardens. Arnold said that the guild raised about $17,000 to support the gardens last year and was hoping to do as well this year.
