COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs is considering stricter zoning regulations for medical marijuana businesses.

The city planning commission plans to consider the regulations Thursday and is trying to determine how many businesses would be in violation of the law if the new rules are approved.

One industry advocate tells The Gazette that up to 40 medical marijuana businesses would be forced to close and dozens of people would lose their jobs.

The changes would expand the definition of a school to include preschools, colleges, universities and seminaries. They would also expand the required buffer zone between a school and a medical marijuana center from 400 feet to 1,000 feet.
