Getting your player ready...

Baby, it’s cold outside.

No complaints from the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority’s Theta Zeta Sigma Alumnae Chapter, though. Everything was warm — even a little fuzzy — when they gathered at the Marriott Denver South at Park Meadows for lunch and a fashion show presented by Joseph Hamilton Furs.

“An Afternoon of Elegance” was a benefit for chapter philanthropies, which include Operation BigBookBag, Wee Savers, college scholarships and the annual Sigma Pearls Debutante Cotillion.

Chairwomen Ollie Smith and Vanessa Power Anderson enlisted members of the Denver Metropolitan National Pan Hellenic Council, and other friends of the chapter, to model the 75 coats, jackets and capes that Hamilton supplied for the occasion.

Smith, a founder of Theta Zeta Sigma chapter and past chair of the debutante ball, said the idea for “An Afternoon of Elegance” came after she attended her sorority’s 53rd national conference in Palm Springs, Calif.

“The theme of the conference was ‘On Fire to Serve,’ and we came away from it with an even greater resolve to support our youth while developing new ways of offering a hands-up approach to community members in need.”

The 100 guests were greeted by chapter president Tracey Drayton; Kathy Callum delivered the invocation; Kathy Jackson addressed the spirit of the occasion and Kevin Jackson prepared the models for their runway debuts.
