COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Pot shops are staying in El Paso County after voters narrowly rejected a ban on ballots.

El Paso County becomes the first jurisdiction in Colorado to reject a ban on marijuana centers. In close election results certified Wednesday, the El Paso County ban failed by about 1,000 votes out of more than 180,000 votes cast.

El Paso officials couldn’t certify have the results from the Nov. 2 pot vote until counting provisional ballots because the question was so close. Other Colorado communities considering pot-shop bans, including Aurora, approved them.

A new state law allows local jurisdictions to decide whether to allow commercial marijuana shops.
