Dalton Taylor tossed three touchdown passes and Matt Biery rushed for two scores as top-ranked Elizabeth rolled over Palmer Ridge in the opening round. . . . The Cardinals are 9-1 at home the last two seasons. The only loss was to last year’s 3A state champion Valor Christian. . . . Surprising Tri-Valley champion Frederick avenged an earlier defeat to Roosevelt with a 12-0 win. . . . It was the Warriors’ second shutout of the season.
No. 5 Vista Ridge (9-2) at No. 13 Silver Creek (8-4)
Everly-Montgomery Field, Friday, 7 p.m.
Vista Ridge got 221 yards and three TDs, including scoring runs of 76 and 82 yards, from Tyree Walker in a 26-10 first-round win over Evergreen. . . . The victory marked the first postseason win in the Wolves’ first playoff game in school history. . . . Two extra points by Brock Garden, after a pair of Austin Apodaca TD passes to KC Lord, proved to the difference in Silver Creek’s upset of fourth-seeded Palisade. . . . Silver Creek might be the home team, but Vista Ridge has won four of five road games this season. The only loss was to Jupiter Christian in Florida on Oct. 15.
No. 6 Cañon City (8-3) at No. 14 Windsor (8-3)
Dudley Field, Saturday, 1 p.m.
Max Javernick scored a pair of second-half touchdowns, including a 75-yard run to break a 21-all tie, as Cañon City toppled Erie, 35-21, in last week’s opening round. . . . Cañon City’s first-round win was its first postseason victory in seven years, when the team was playing in 4A. . . . Windsor, which lost the Tri-Valley title in the last week of the regular season, got back on track with a 14-0 upset of Mountain View. Banning Lobmeyer and David Gadbois scored second-half touchdowns for the Wizards. . . . The win avenged an earlier 28-7 loss to the Mountain Lions.
No. 2 Glenwood Springs (10-1) at No. 10 Lewis-Palmer (9-2)
Don Breese Stadium, Saturday, 1 p.m.
Glenwood Springs won its ninth straight game with a 42-0 shutout of Englewood in the first round. . . . The Demons forced Englewood into six turnovers and started drives on the Pirates’ side of the field five times in the first half, scoring on four of them. . . . Lewis-Palmer got a 26-yard field goal from Jesse Vieira late in the fourth quarter to upset Centaurus in the first round. . . . The Rangers’ Colton Goeas rushed for 167 yards and a TD.
